Cost of running an electric fan all night as Scotland hit by 30C heatwave

The UK is expected to be hotter than the Sahara on Tuesday as the Met Office's first ever red extreme heat warning enters its second day.

Parts of the country could see highs of 42C today as Brits are warned to "stay indoors and do as little as possible" and avoid public transport.

The temperature could even set a new UK record. The current hottest temperature recorded is 38.7C, set at Cambridge Botanic Gardens back in July 2019.

But the heat will endure long after the sun sets, with nighttime temperatures predicted to hit a record of 25C in London, the Daily Mirror reports.So how much does it cost to keep a fan on all night if you're struggling to keep cool?Auto energy switching service Migrate estimates almost half the population use electric fans to help them stay cool during the hot summer nights.
