Construction companies fight back as criminals continue to target industry at huge cost

A new initiative aimed at tackling crime targeting the construction industry has been officially launched in North Lanarkshire.Partners involved in the Construction Watch Scotland platform joined forces for the unveiling event at GAP Hire Solutions Depot, Harthill Industrial Estate.The ALERT platform is aimed at tackling a rise in thefts from construction sites and fuel thefts.It will increase awareness between construction and trade industries, as well as police, to ensure intelligence relating to criminal or suspicious activity at any location is quickly provided to others along with prevention advice.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

It follows a rise in the thefts of plant equipment, tools and stored fuel and is supported by and supported by the Scottish Business Resilience Centre, Secured By Design and Crimestoppers.Similar schemes are already in place to tackle other forms of acquisitive crime as part of Rural Watch Scotland and Neighbourhood Watch Scotland.In February, almost £500,000 worth of equipment and more than £11,000 worth of stored fuel was stolen in Scotland.
