Given that the previous Commonwealth Games in Glasgow cost £543 million, some have questioned whether the city can afford to host another one.
It was announced yesterday that, should no other host country be found, the sports spectacle may make its first trip back to Scotland since 2014.
Readers of the Daily Record can see both sides of the issue in our comments section. It has already been stated by Commonwealth Games Scotland (CGS) that a "cost effective" event could be held in Glasgow for between £130 million and £150 million.
The Chair of the CGS, Ian Reid, said yesterday that if established sporting venues were used and the number of disciplines was reduced, the event could return without "significant sums of public funding".However campaigners addressing the city's drug-related deaths and homelessness issues, have questioned whether reasonably priced games can actually be provided.
