Charity calls for extra £50 payment for older people to help heat their homes this winter

Almost half of people aged over-60 are worried about heating their home this winter because of the soaring cost of energy, according to new research conducted by Opinium on behalf of Age UK.

The charity has now called for urgent UK Government action to help older people stay warm after a survey found 45 per cent - the equivalent of around seven million - said they were worried about staying warm over the winter months.

The charity wants the UK Government to provide an "expedited" extra one-off payment of £50 for those already eligible for the Cold Weather Payment to help with bills.
