A care home has defended its decision to ban all visitors just days before Christmas due to an outbreak of Coronavirus. Highfield Care Home on Grane Road, Rossendale, announced it will be closing its doors for 14 days in line with Government guidance.

It comes after "'a couple of staff members" at the home tested positive for Coronavirus, reports Lancs Live. The home is owned by Each Other Care who have eight other care homes in the North West and house 60 residents across 3 units: residential, dementia and respite.

However this news for some will mean another Christmas without elderly relatives. Gavin Robertson’s 95-year-old mum is a resident at the care home and is upset at the decision to close so near to Christmas.
