Call for blood donors to help poorly tots like Dumfries toddler Orla

A Dumfries woman whose baby granddaughter was diagnosed with cancer at just nine months old is urging people to give blood and help the NHS.Angela Kearney’s little granddaughter Orla is preparing for her third round of chemotherapy in a bid to beat eye cancer, retinoblastoma.Angela, 57, said: “Our wee beaut Orla was diagnosed on June 9.

Since then she has undergone numerous tests, chemo followed by platelet infusion and blood transfusion.“She has spent more time in Dumfries, Glasgow and Birmingham hospitals than at home recently.“As she prepares for chemo round three, Aunty Suz, Aunty Gill and granny have recently donated blood in her honour.“The next time donation takes place and if you have a spare hour, please give blood.“We are so grateful to the NHS for what they are doing for Orla.”When little Orla Kearney was diagnosed with cancer in June aged just nine months, her family were devastated.The tot, who will celebrate her first birthday on August 29, has spent more time in hospital receiving treatment than she has at home recently.Orla was diagnosed with retinoblastoma, a cancer of the eye, after dad Thomas Kearney, 31, and mum Morgan Gillan, 21, noticed she had a slight squint and decided to get it checked.She has since been receiving treatment at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary, Glasgow Royal Hospital for Children and Birmingham Children’s Hospital.She will need six rounds of chemotherapy and is due the third dose next week.In a bid to show their support to the NHS for taking care of Orla, her gran Angela and aunts Susan and Gill have all donated blood.
