Bury's MPs have called for greater protection for memorials to Sir Robert Peel.It comes after a number of statues of the former Prime Minister appeared on a list of historical monuments campaigners had hoped to have removed.The 'Topple the Racists' interactive map included statues of Peel in Bury, Manchester, Preston, Leeds and Glasgow, along with more than 50 other memorials which protesters had called on authorities to have removed.It was produced days after a statue to former slave trader Edward Colston in Bristol was torn down and dumped in a harbour.There has been some confusion over the arguments for removing Peel's after it was revealed that some of the complaints made about him were actually based on the statements and actions of.
