Burt Bacharach has died aged 94. Bacharach's publicist Tina Brausam confirmed to The Washington Post that the musician had died at his home in Los Angeles of natural causes.
Known as one of the greatest songwriters of the 20th century, having composed in excess of 500 songs across his career, Missouri-born Bacharach was behind hits including Dionne Warwick's Walk On By, Aretha Franklin's I Say A Little Prayer and B.
J. Thomas's Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head. Burt was the genius behind 52 UK Top 40 hits in total; with Number 1s including Cilla Black's Anyone Who Had A Heart (1964) and such Top 10s as Dionne Warwick's Do You Know The Way To San Jose? (1968) and The Carpenters' (They Long To Be) Close To You (1970).
Bacharach also won six GRAMMY Awards, having received 21 nominations, and three Academy Awards. In 2008, Burt was heralded as the 'greatest living composer' as he accepted the GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award.
