Police have launched an investigation after a stranger tried to pick up a five-year-old girl in a park. The shocking incident happened while the girl was playing at Nuttall Park in Ramsbottom, near Bury, at about 3pm on Sunday.
Detectives say an unknown man approached the girl before attemping to pick her up. After her parents intervened, the man ran off into a nearby area of woodland. READ MORE: The 10 big Manchester developments that could be given the green light this week The child - a reception pupil at St Andrew's CE Primary School in Ramsbottom - was not harmed in the incident, according to Greater Manchester Police.
The force says it is investigating the 'suspicious circumstances' surrounding the incident. Detectives say they want to speak a man seen in the area, who is described as a tall, white male wearing black gloves, a red bobble hat, a black jacket and had a backpack on.
Chief Inspector Ian Partington of GMP’s Bury District, said: “We understand that this incident has caused some concern in the community. “We thank the public for their patience and assistance so far, and ask that anyone with information should contact us first to aid our investigation.
