Boris Johnson said the COP26 conference in Glasgow "sounded the death knell for coal power" despite the watering down of language on production.
During a press conference in Downing Street the Prime Minister took a swipe at countries like China and India over their commitments on coal.
He said: "We cannot force sovereign nations to do what they do not want to do."Johnson said most of Western Europe and North America have been persuaded to pull the plug on financial support for all overseas fossil fuel projects by this time next year.
