Henry Aaron, the slugger known as Hammerin’ Hank who cemented himself in baseball lore when he broke Babe Ruth’s career home run mark in 1974, died Friday. He was 86. His daughter confirmed the news to media outlets.

Hank Aaron, the baseball Hall of Famer known as “Hammerin’ Hank”, has died at 86.

Hank Aaron was a Hall of Fame slugger for the Braves who held the Major League Baseball career home run record for 33 years.Born Henry Louis Aaron on Feb. 5, 1934, Aaron grew up in poverty and as a child had to fashion homemade bats and baseballs to practice the sport.
