Baby found crawling in home where mum and son had been ‘brutally stabbed to death’

A man who is on trial accused of murdering his former lover and her son had confessed to killing them in their own home. However, Daniel Boulton denies murdering Bethany Vincent and her nine-year-old son Darren on May 31 last year.

Instead, Boulton claims he suffered from recognised mental health condition, which significantly restricted his ability to think clearly, make rational judgement and exercise self control.

The remarks were given in court by prosecutor Katherine Goddard QC at the start of the four week trial. Miss Goddard also said the young mum and son had been “brutally stabbed to death in their own home.” A nine-month-old baby was found crawling around the terraced home when emergency services were alerted on the night of the killings, the prosecution told the jury.The prosecutor said: “There is no dispute that the person who stabbed both of them is Daniel Boulton.”She added: “Although he carried out the stabbing of the two of them, he was at the time suffering from a mental health condition which substantially impaired his ability to make rational judgement and exercise self control. “They pair had been in a relationship which started in March 2019.But the court heard that by the end of the year it had deteriorated and flared into increasing violence towards Bethany and her parents, from Louth.Boulton, from Skegness, was given a restraining order imposed not to contact Bethany.

However, he twice breached that court order said Miss Goddard.
