Ayr United Open Day hailed huge success as event makes big return

Ayr United's Open Day was hailed a huge success after making a sun-kissed return to Somerset Park.The event drew hundreds on a perfect Saturday afternoon as fans of all ages mixed with their heroes.The event showcased the best of the Honest Men as the club threw open its doors for a day that featured a range of sports clubs from throughout the town.There was a range of challenges laid on with everything from basketball and athletics to rugby and bowls staged around the club.Fans took part in a 'Player Treasure Hunt' as they searched high and low for their favourite names from the men's and ladies first teams.The new United away kit also proved a hot ticket as more than 200 flew out of the door during an incredible shift from retail store staff, with almost five figures taken in a hugely successful day for the club.There was charity fundraising as well with hundreds of pounds taken for both Whiteleys Retreat and Ayrshire Cancer Support at a well attended Coffee Afternoon inside the club's supporter's hub.Managing director, Graeme Mathie, told the Ayrshire Post: “It gave us a great glimpse into the future of Ayr United and was brilliant to see so many children and families attend, mix with our men and ladies first team squads and engage with all the stalls and activities on offer.“We’ve talked about being a club who can unite generations and we saw that evidenced on Saturday.“I’d personally like to thank all the staff at Ayr United who worked incredibly hard – on top of their day to day tasks in preparation for the new season – to prepare and deliver a great event.“I’d also like to thank the sports clubs who attended and challenged our players – Ayr Storm, Ayr Rugby, Ayr Seaforth and Hawkhill Bowling Club – and to the
