Ayr United boss Lee Bullen aims to boost attacking options ahead of league kick off

Lee Bullen admits he's still looking to bolster his squad's attacking options in the wake of their Premier Sports Cup exit.Ayr went down 1-0 at St Johnstone this afternoon but put in an improved display against the Premiership outfit.But with only the one goal scored in four cup outings, Bullen knows he may have to add extra firepower with the league kick-off seven days away.He said: "I thought we got into a lot of good areas today and it came down to that same old thing of not being able to put the ball in the back of the net."Ideally we'd like to get another couple of additions in the door and they will be in the advanced areas of the pitch."But on the whole, I feel the squad is in good shape and we've come through pre season without any injuries and that is brilliant for us."The lads' mental state is really positive - you can look at results and be doom and gloom and I get that."But this cup sometimes comes a little bit quicker than you'd want as a pre season preparation."You only have to look at the likes of Hibs and St Mirren who are struggling to see that."We've got a lot of new faces in the door and it will always take time to bond."These are not excuses, but our bigger picture was always working towards Arbroath in the league and I feel sure we're ready for that now."Bullen made six changes at McDiarmid Park and after falling behind to Graham Carey's second minute strike, Ayr were relatively comfortable throughout.But they couldn't trouble the scorers and that will remain the biggest concern for the head coach as he prepares his side to welcome Dick Campbell's Red Lichties to Somerset next Saturday.He said: "There was a lot of pleasing stuff after the start we made - we had to show a lot of concentration and work
