Shoppers who frequent Tesco, Aldi and Sainsbury's say they have 'given up' after seeing how much own brand butter now costs.

Earlier this year shoppers were gobsmacked as the price of Lurpak shot up to as much as £7.50 per pack in some shops. As a result, many people decided to opt for own-brand butter to keep costs down.

But lately, the price of own-brand butter has risen in some supermarkets. Posting on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group, a user named Theresa Berry shared how she'd been to visit several shops and noticed that £1.99 was the "going rate" now for own-brand butter.

Alongside snaps of Sainsbury's unsalted butter, costing £1.99 (an Aldi price match), she shared an image of Country Life butter costing £2.50.
