Air ambulance lands on motorway as woman rushed to hospital after horror crash

A woman has been airlifted to hospital after a crash between a lorry and two cars closed a busy motorway for several hours.The incident happened on the M4 westbound at 9.25am on Wednesday, between J42 A483 Swansea East / Briton Ferry to J44 A465 Llandarcy in Neath Port Talbot.

An air ambulance was sent to the scene and landed on the motorway with the road initially closed in both directions, reports Wales Online.

South Wales Police confirmed a woman has been taken to University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.The eastbound carriageway opened shortly after 11am with the westbound side open again around half an hour later.A spokesperson for the force said: "At around 9.25am today emergency services were called following a road traffic collision which involved a lorry and two cars on the westbound carriageway of the M4 between junctions 42 and 43."A 58-year-old woman has been taken by air ambulance to the University Hospital of Wales at Cardiff.

Her condition is described as non-life-threatening."The motorway was closed in both directions to allow the air ambulance to land.
