A storm threatened to call the whole thing off - but a resilient spirit ensured it was a weekend to remember

On Friday morning, Storm Lilian made an appearance across Greater Manchester with heavy winds and gusts of up to 60 mph. Amongst causing travel chaos across the city-borough, the weather also threatened to call one of the biggest events in Bolton off.

Each year, the Bolton Food and Drink Festival is attended by more than 500,000 people - more than the number of people who attend Glastonbury Festival each year.

But, having been set to kick off on Friday (August 23), the event was thrown into jeopardy after the storm caused serious damage to stalls and festival stages.

Photos from the festival site, which takes place across the town centre, showed tents flipped over and barriers fallen down.
