You may be wondering why numerous stars are wearing blue ribbons on the red carpet at the 2023 EE British Academy Film Awards on Sunday (February 19) at Royal Albert Hall in London, England.
The ribbons read “#WithRefugees” on the front and are to show solidarity and support for those who have been displaced, especially amid Russia’s war against Ukraine.
The UNHCR adds, “The #WithRefugees Coalition is a powerful force for good inspiring work in solidarity with people forced to flee all over the world.” Some of the attendees who are wearing the ribbons tonight include Sophie Turner, Michelle Yeoh, Cate Blanchett, Colin Farrell, Angela Bassett, Everything Everywhere All at Once film editor Paul Rogers, My Brother the Devil‘s Sally El Hosaini and James Floyd, The Woman King director Gina Prince-Bythewood, actor Daryl McCormack, and more.
