dailyrecord.co.ukA new study reveals that Someone You Loved by Lewis Capaldi is the most popular break-up song of the last five years.The study, conducted by AI-powered playlist name generator Playlist Name AI, analysed over 130 songs that can be defined as “break-up songs” from 2019 to 2024 and summed up their Spotify streams and YouTube Music plays to discover which one was the most popular.Lewis Capaldi’s hit song from 2018, Someone You Loved, comes in first.
The song peaked at number one on the UK Singles Chart and became Capaldi’s first number one single, spending seven consecutive weeks atop the chart and was the best-selling single of 2019 in the UK.
With 3.535 billion streams on Spotify alone, the highest on the list, and 2.8 billion YouTube Music plays, it totals 6,335,266,975 plays across the two platforms.In second comes Kill This Love by Korean girl group Blackpink, released in 2019.
Despite having the lowest Spotify play count at ‘only’ 842,000, the song has 3.4 billion YouTube Music plays, balancing the result with a whopping 4,242,640,983 total plays.
