West Lothian BT and Openreach staff staged fresh strike action today and will continue tomorrow, joining thousands of colleagues from around the country as part of an ongoing pay dispute .The Communication Workers Union (CWU) said more than 40,000 are involved in a second round of industrial action following strikes earlier this month. It coincides with further strikes at Royal Mail, where 115,000 CWU members are set to walk out tomorrow. The CWU said its members are striking against a £1,500 pay rise offered by BT Group.CWU general secretary Dave Ward.

said: "The reason for the strike is simple: workers will not accept a massive deterioration in their living standards."BT Group said the offer - which they said represented an increase of around five per cent on average which rose to eight per cent for the lowest paid - was the highest pay rise in more than 20 years. But the CWU dispute this, calling it "a dramatic real-terms pay cut."
