'We wouldn't let our family use the service,' admit striking staff at drug rehab centre said to be running on skeleton staff

Wigan and Leigh’s drug and alcohol rehabilitation service is running on a ‘skeleton staff’, say striking workers who argue they wouldn’t be happy for their family or friends to use the service.

Nearly 30 workers walked out on strike last week – the most recent step action in a long-running dispute with their employers.

They say the charity has failed to keep pay rates the same as those who work in the NHS – leaving staff demoralised and with overly heavy workloads.

And they’ve levelled fresh criticism of the charity for its £140,000 rebrand – where it changed its name from Addaction to We Are With You – while the union dispute has rumbled on, getting support from Labour deputy leadership candidate Angela Rayner in the process.
