Vandals set fire to new extension at Renfrew primary school

Police are investigating after vandals set fire to part of a Renfrew primary school last night.Emergency services were called to Kirklandneuk Primary in the town’s Ard Road after 10.30pm following reports of a fire in the building’s new extension.Police and firefighters raced to the scene where a “small fire” was discovered in the extension, which is currently under construction.Two fire appliances attended the scene to put out the flames and ensured the area was safe.Don't miss the latest headlines from around Renfrewshire.

Renfrewshire Council confirmed that no damage had been done to the main school building and that staff and pupils had not been affected.Police Scotland is currently investigating the fire and enquiries are ongoing.Officers are set to increase patrols in the area and are speaking with nearby residents in order to trace those responsible.A Renfrewshire Council spokesman said: “There was a small fire which caused minimal damage to the new extension which is currently under construction.
