George Floyd, who died after being forcibly pinned down by police officers in Minneapolis, USA, will be remembered much closer to home tonight.

Trafford Town Hall will be bathed in purple light this evening as a gesture of solidarity with George Floyd, his family and the Black Lives Matter campaign, council leader Andrew Western has announced.

On May 25 2020, the unarmed black security guard died in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States, after being forcibly held down by police officers last week.

A viral video of the incident showed the 46-year-old saying he was in pain and couldn’t breathe while one white officer, Derek Chauvin, is pictured pinning George Floyd’s neck down with his knee.
