Broadway shows will not return this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, it has been announced. All 41 venues in New York’s world famous theatrical centre have been closed since March as the city entered lockdown to halt the spread of Covid-19.
And they will not be reopening their doors in 2020, The Broadway League has announced, in a devastating blow for the industry.
Thomas Schumacher, chairman of the board at The Broadway League, said: “The alchemy of 1000 strangers bonding into a single audience fuelling each performer on stage and behind the scenes will be possible again when Broadway theatres can safely host full houses. “Every single member of our community is eager to get back to work sharing stories that inspire our audience
