Former Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham has admitted he was surprised to see Erik ten Hag publicly addressing his motive for leaving Jadon Sancho out of the matchday squad against Arsenal.
Following United's 3-1 defeat at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, Ten Hag revealed Sancho had not been named in the squad due to his performances in training.
The England international took to social media later that evening to dispute the comments, claiming he had been made a ‘scapegoat’ and that there were ‘other reasons’ for his omission that he was not willing to discuss. It remains to be seen whether disciplinary action will be taken following Sancho’s outburst. Sheringham was asked by Sky Sports whether Sir Alex Ferguson would have done similar to Ten Hag in criticising a player in public, to which he responded: “No, not at all.
