The Sunday Mail has been nominated for one of the UK’s most prestigious journalism awards for its string of exclusive reports on the SNP in crisis.
The newspaper’s team is up for Investigation of the Year at the Press Awards, which will be held in London in April. Our stories exposed lies, cover-ups and fraud claims at the heart of the SNP and uncovered new evidence which is at the centre of a major police investigation into more than £600,000 of “missing” donations. When we revealed 30,000 members had quit, SNP senior officials dismissed the story as “drivel” .
When we were proven to have been correct, the party’s chief executive Peter Murrell quit, closely followed by his wife, former first minister Nicola Sturgeon.
Sunday Mail editor Lorna Hughes said: “In the face of constant denials and intimidation, the team refused to stop digging and uncovered the stories our readers needed to hear.” Don't miss the latest news from around Scotland and beyond - Sign up to our daily newsletter here .
