SNP regains control in Dundee after five years of coalition

The SNP has re-taken control of Dundee City Council after five years of coalition with Scotland's longest-serving councillor.

The nationalists managed to get 15 councillors across the city to give them a majority out of the 29 potential seats. Kevin Cordell for the Ferry was announced as the final SNP candidate to be returned shortly after 3pm.

Dundee's electoral landscape has shifted significantly, with two new Liberal Democrats elected in Strathmartine and the West End, and Labour candidates returned in the North East and The Ferry for the first time in years.The Conservatives now have one seat in the Ferry, while the Scottish Greens failed to make headway despite increasing their share of the vote.Liberal Democrats have returned to Strathmartine for the first time in a decade, with local community campaigner Daniel Coleman elected in place of outgoing stalwart Ian Borthwick.The Lib Dems have also reaped the rewards of persistent local campaigning after repeat candidate Michael Crichton ousted Labour's Richard McCready in the West End.Crichton is joined by Nadia El-Nakla, wife of SNP health minister Humza Yousaf, who has replaced the Conservatives' Donald Hay.DundeeLive brings you the latest headlines from Dundee and beyond.But did you know you all the ways you can stay informed with us?You can get our top stories sent straight to your inbox with our daily news updates.
