College and university bosses have united to call on the SNP Government to deliver a fair budget for Scotland's students.Finance secretary Kate Forbes will outline Holyrood's draft spending plans for 2022 next month - and education chiefs are anxious to secure a deal that will help the sector recover from lockdown.

Young people faced months of remote learning and closed lecture theatres before campuses were allowed to reopen over the summer.

Fears have grown that lockdown has widened existing inequalities in Scottish education that sees pupils from the poorest backgrounds less likely to go on to university than those from the most affluent areas.
