Armed police race to Edinburgh street amid alleged 'weapons disturbance'

Armed police officers raced to an Edinburgh street this afternoon after reports of an alleged disturbance understood to involve weapons.Cops confirmed they were called out to the Pennywell Road area of the capital at around 12.20pm.

The street has been locked down, with locals reporting a heavy police presence in the area.Ferry Road Gardens and Ferry Road Avenue have also been closed to the public.

Police sniffer dogs and the force helicopter were pictured in the area as investigations were carried out.Cops confirmed a 50-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the alleged incident.Speaking to Edinburgh Live, one local said: “I was driving past and there were police cars everywhere and police running down from Drylaw Station.

I also passed six cars and two vans coming along Davidson Mains and Queensferry Road all with their blue lights and sirens going off."A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 12.20pm on Saturday, January 14, to a report of a disturbance in the Pennywell Road area of Edinburgh.“Officers attended and a 50-year-old man has been arrested in connection.
