Simon Rex Wins Best Male Lead Actor at Spirit Awards 2022: 'I'm Just Grateful'
justjared.comSimon Rex takes the podium after winning Best Actor at the 2022 Film Independent Spirit Awards at the Santa Monica Pier on Sunday afternoon (March 6) in Santa Monica, Calif.
The 47-year-old actor picked up the trophy for his role in Red Rocket. “My career was in the toilet, I moved out to Joshua Tree thinking it was over,” Simon shared in his speech on stage, before he got a call for the role.
He added, “We shot this film during Covid, even finishing it was ambitious. I’m just grateful for Sean’s [Baker, director] trust in me.” Simon even mentioned that the cast and crew even hid from police to make the movie. Simon‘s fellow nominees Clifton Collins Jr, Udo Kier, Frankie Faison, and Michael Greyeyes were also seen at the event, alongside Best Supporting Actor nominee Chaske Spencer.
