'Shocking' rise in anti-Semitic hate crimes recorded by GMP since October, figures show
manchestereveningnews.co.ukThe number of anti-Semitic hate crimes recorded by Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has risen sharply following the outbreak of the Hamas-Israel conflict, new data shows.
The force recorded 74 anti-Semitic offences in the month following the Hamas attacks on Israel on October 7, compared with 15 for the same period in 2022 and 14 in 2021.
Figures collected by the PA news agency show a similar trend across the country's major police forces. The Home Office condemned the rise in offences, adding: “There is no place for hate in our society.” Jewish charities called the findings 'shocking'.
Some police forces also recorded a rise in Islamophobic offences, although this was not clear in Greater Manchester.
