Scottish school pupils could be in class just one day a week for next YEAR

John Swinney has warned that life in schools across the country is unlikely to return to normal in the next academic year. Due to coronavirus the vast majority of pupils are finishing this school year from home and opposition parties have raised fears that poorer children will be left behind unless there is a nationwide approach to homeschooling.

The Scottish Government announced plans to reopen schools on August 11 with a “blended” learning model, which would see pupils spend at least up to half of their time learning from home.

Swinney said the measures will not be in place “for a minute longer than is necessary” but conceded that to maintain social distancing the part-time attendance would have to be in place “for some considerable time.
