Scotland’s oldest continuous bowling club has folded after 281 years. Kilmarnock Bowling Club has survived through two World Wars, a fire and flooding at the club and more recently, a global pandemic.
But the historic institution was forced to close as dwindling memberships and running costs meant the club was no longer economically viable.
Current club treasurer Andrew King said the news was a very sad day for Kilmarnock and warned the club is unlikely to be the last to call it a day.
