Edinburgh attack. Mark Hartree was left with painful injuries after being thrown to the ground by the huge animal who then lay on top of him.

Th 53-year-old could 'hear his ribs cracking when he breathed' felt blood gush from his head during the attack in the Pentland Hills Regional Park.

Mr Hartree, who is the president of Carnethy Hill Running Club, believes the cow became aggressive as she was protecting her young calves.

The panicked mother charged at him after fearing the runner was a threat to them, reports the BBC. She then pinned him to the ground with all her weight and thrashed her head against him.Mr Hartree, from Edinburgh, had just run off Turnhouse Hill at Flotterstone when they saw cows on the path.There was a couple there.
