Row erupts over council summer meeting proposal

Due to Covid-19 emergency powers none of the usual council meeting have occurred since March. Council Chief Executive Eileen Howat has been taking rapid decisions in consultation with certain councillors during the pandemic.

The proposal to reinstate normal council panels starting in July and August was dramatically dropped after councillors failed to agree on it.

Meetings never take place during the break. A proposal was put forward at a special full council meeting in June to end emergency powers and bring normal democratic process back.

Conservatives councillors did not support the bid and claimed they were not given any reason why emergency powers should end.
