Rare Arctic seal flown to Shetland for release after turning up in Aberdeen bay

A rare type of seal normally found in Arctic waters has been flown to Shetland and successfully released back into the wild after turning up in a bay in Aberdeen.

The Scottish SPCA have been caring for the ringed seal, normally found in far northern waters, for the past two months after the British Divers Marine Life Rescue was alerted to it in Cove Bay Harbour on August 27.

On Saturday, the animal welfare charity flew the male seal, named Hispi, north to Shetland so it could be released as far north as possible and have the best chance of returning to its natural habitat.Initially mistaken for a common seal pup due to his small size, Hispi was lethargic and had several abrasions when he was found.He was later discovered to be a rare
