Rangers striker Jermain Defoe to stand trial next year on speeding charges

A Rangers striker will stand trial next year accused of speeding. Jermain Defoe, 39, will appear at Glasgow's Justice of the Peace court to face the single charge in June.

Prosecutors state Defoe, of Bearsden, East Dunbartonshire, drove a black Range Rover Sport at 56 miles per hour in a 30 zone.

The alleged office is said to have taken place on December 28, 2020 on the A730, Mill Street between Millburn Avenue and Mill Court in Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire.

Darren Fleming, defending, told the court today: "He pleads not guilty and we wish to fix the usual diets. "Can his attendance be excused as he is in employment?" Justice of the peace Colin Marchment replied: "The difficulty is he hasn't been here at all - I have sat three times."M
