The death of Princess Diana back in 1997 shook the nation and the rest of the world. The fatal car crash, which also killed her partner Dodi Fayed and the driver of the vehicle, happened 26 years ago, when the car crashed into the Pont de l'Alma tunnel in Paris.Despite efforts from emergency services, the princess was confirmed dead after being taken to hospital - and viewers of The Crown will be able to see these scenes play out in the final series of the Netflix drama which airs on November 16.

The Mirror reports one of the people who tried to save Princess Diana's life was Xavier Gourmelon, a firefighter who was called to the scene of the crash.

But when he first saw her, he admitted he didn't know who she was - and because her eyes were open and she was conscious, he assumed she was not seriously hurt.Xavier reportedly held Diana's hand as she remained in the car and told her to stay calm.

Diana then asked him: "My God, what's happened?" - suffering a cardiac arrest just moments later.Mr Gourmelon previously told The Sun: "I massaged her heart and a few seconds later she started breathing again.
