A stroke survivor from Perthshire has appealed for people across the region to call 999 if they are ill. Debbie Matthew (44) was speaking as it was reported some hospital wards were “eerily quiet” amid the coronavirus pandemic.That has sparked concerns that people with life-threatening illnesses or conditions are avoiding going to hospital because they do not want to burden NHS staff with a non-COVID-19 condition.Debbie, from Comrie, has teamed up with Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland to remind people of the acronym FAST for the key signs of stroke.She explained her son Finlay was so shocked at her own stroke four years ago that he has been spreading the FAST message since.
