Perth and Kinross Council: Rise in school meal fees leaves opposition councillors unhappy

A £450,000 review of school catering services along with a 5p increase to Perth and Kinross school meals in both April 2021 and 2022 has left a sour taste with many opposition councillors.The review was brought to the table in Friday’s council budget and voted through by both the Conservative and Lib Dem council groups.Both the SNP and Labour and Independent groups fear a review could mean revisiting the previously rejected idea of all Perth and Kinross meals being produced at a centralised production unit in Dundee.The SNP group also firmly opposed the price increase and called for a reduction of a school meal from its current cost of £2.15 to £2 in their budget.Seconding the Conservative budget, Conservative councillor John Duff said:
