Wilco‘s Jeff Tweedy has opened up about his relationship with music criticism and revealed “I tried to be a rock critic but I couldn’t do it”.The frontman and songwriter recently released his third book World Within A Song: Music That Changed My Life And Life That Changed My Music, which was described as “an exciting and heartening mix of memories, music, and inspiration.”Appearing on the latest episode of Pitchfork‘s weekly podcast, The Pitchfork Review, Tweedy discussed his book, especially his complex relationship with music criticism.“I take that aphorism about how music critics are frustrated musicians and turn it on its head when I think about my life, because early on I thought that writing about music would be more attainable to me,” he told host, and Pitchfork Associate Editor, Sam Sodomsky.He continued: “So I tried my hand at writing for fanzines in St. Louis but was too lazy to do it correctly or with any success.

The venue kicks off the season with a robust opening lineup that includes Maggie Rogers, Parliament Funkadelic, Yo La Tengo, Darius Rucker, Joan Jett, Tove Lo, Jeff Tweedy, Tank and the Bangas, Portugal. Angel Olsen’s sixth studio album, ‘Big Time’, Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy has shared a lo-fi acoustic cover of its title track.Tweedy’s raw, weathered vocals fit the song affably, retaining the original version’s smoky and melancholic spirit. Wilco have concluded their Sky Blue Sky festival in Mexico with guest appearances from Pavement frontman Stephen Malkmus and Spoon frontman Britt Daniel during their headlining set.The band brought out Malkmus to sing lead vocals on a cover of Pavement’s 1994 single ‘Cut Your Hair’, a song Wilco have covered several times over the years. Daniel, meanwhile, was enlisted on vocals and acoustic guitar during a performance of ‘Kamera’, lifted from Wilco’s 2001 album ‘Yankee Hotel Foxtrot’.

Wilco have announced new dates for a planned run of shows across the US, following coronavirus-enforced postponements.Originally announced in March 2020, the band will embark on their ‘It’s Time’ co-headline tour with Sleater-Kinney throughout this August. Wilco will then go it alone for a number of festival and solo headline shows.In October, the band will then begin the ‘Ode To Joy’ tour, in support of their 11th LP ‘An Ode To Joy’.
