Nicola Sturgeon announces 697 new coronavirus cases in Scotland as no deaths recorded

positive case means the toll stands at 2,530. The First Minister, speaking from her daily briefing in Edinburgh, said 218 people are currently being treated in hospital with 22 in intensive care.

Of the new cases; 242 are in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 145 in Lothian, 130 in Lanarkshire with the rest spread across other health boards.Last week there was a surge in infections and deaths across the country.The latest figures comes as speculation mounts about a possible 'circuit breaker' lockdown being imposed on the country.

The Scottish Government and its health advisors are considering whether further  lockdown restrictions  are required to bring down the number of people catching Covid-19.
