Kate Liquorish is one of the leads on Netflix’ Queen Sono. She plays Ekaterina, heiress of an oligarch family with ulterior motives and one of the things that stood out for us is how well she spoke Russian. Speaking to us not so long ago she explained that she had to learn the language in a very short period of time for her performance.

South Africans are incredibly excited about Netflix’s first African production Queen Sono. The series, which stars Pearl Thusi as the titular character, follows the story of a secret South African clandestine agent who tackles criminal operations while dealing with crises in her personal life. Naturally, the country is excited about seeing Pearl in her new role but many can’t afford a Netflix subscription to watch the show. Still, Pearl has urged fans not to pirate the show as its success is based solely on views on the streaming platform.

Pearl Thusi has been receiving a lot of praise from the likes of BBC and the O Magazine for her lead role in Netflix’ Queen Sono, a first of its kind from the continent on the streaming service.

You could feel the anticipation and excitement in the air at the premiere of Queen Sono on Thursday, February 27. Stars of the show, beaming and looking suitably glamorous  were greeted by excited fans on the red carpet.
