Bolton to wave farewell to former Mayoress Gay Wharton today.Mourners socially distanced along Chorley New Road and Overdale Drive, close to the Retreat Restaurant, watched on as the funeral cortege made its way to Overdale West Chapel.As the black Mercedes-Benz hearse turned into Overdale Drive, those who had gathered started to clap.

A bouquet of lilies and yellow flowers decorated Gay's coffin in the car.It is clear that Gay had touched many people's lives during her 58 years; a number of former colleagues from Sainsbury's were in attendance in their uniforms to pay their respects, as were representatives from other local organisations throughout Bolton.After the procession disappeared down Overdale Drive, some people made their way.
