Emily Andre has slammed critics who called out Helen George for working while pregnant and told them: “Pregnancy isn’t an illness”.

The actress was called “very unprofessional” for continuing to film hit BBC One drama Call The Midwife whilst expecting her second child.

Writing exclusively in her OK! column, NHS doctor Emily says she found the comments “ridiculous” and “very old-fashioned”. Emily, 32, said: “Like Helen, I don’t agree with these comments. “It’s very common for a lot of women to work up until a few weeks before they deliver now, so they can save up as much maternity leave as possible for after they’ve given birth.” She continued: “To expect an actress not to work while pregnant is ridiculous and a very old-fashioned view.
