Misconduct proceedings against Anthony Grainger cop thrown out as GMP is slammed for showing "a fundamental disregard" for all involved

Misconduct charges against a former senior police officer have been dropped at the final hour after Greater Manchester Police offered no evidence.

Steve Heywood’s lawyer yesterday accused GMP of an 'omnishambles' over delays and a last-minute bid to adjourn gross misconduct proceedings.

And today a lawyer acting for the police force asked for the allegations against Mr Heywood to be dismissed on the basis of no evidence offered.

Retired former assistant chief constable Mr Heywood was previously forced to apologise to a public inquiry into the fatal shooting of Anthony Grainger after he added detail into his log he couldn't have known at the time.
