For those who work in RTÉ, it is usually the case that once they turn 65 years old they retire, as has happened for many in the company over the years.
This was the case for presenter Mary Kennedy, who was forced to leave the station once she hit the age of retirement, and five months later, radio presenter Sean O’Rourke also left after he turned 65.
However, now that Mary Whelan has reached that age, many assumed that he would follow down that same path, but it seems as though he’s staying put where he is.
This is because, technically, Marty isn’t actually employed by RTÉ. Throughout all of his time with the National Broadcaster, he has been on contract work, meaning he won’t be forced to retire.
