Hull Live.Covid-19 test swab sticks are around six inches long and are made of very thin plastic, with material on one end. They look like giant cotton buds.The swab sticks are long in length because in order to be tested for Covid-19, the swabs need to reach the back of the throat.They then snap in half to be able to fit inside the specimen container.One main error in the testing process is if a patient's tongue touches the swab when aiming to reach the tonsils.In this unfortunate case, it is unclear whether the man was trying to test himself at home or he had swallowed the stick after visiting a testing station.Hull Royal Infirmary said they were “unable to comment” after the incident on Tuesday.
