Man dies from coronavirus after being taken to hospital with broken leg

A Bolton man contracted coronavirus and died after being admitted to hospital with a broken leg. Robert Coventry, 72, of Ilkley Close, Tonge Fold was taken to Royal Bolton Hospital on 5th April after a fall.

The Salford-born retired warehouse worker suffered from end-stage COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease). Police coroner's officer Rebecca Gardner told Bolton Coroner's Court that Mr Coventry's condition deteriorated and he was pronounced dead at 2.46pm on 9th April.

Acting senior coroner for Manchester West, Alan Walsh confirmed that a cause of death had been recorded by consultant physician and cardiologist, Dr Lipsomb, from Royal Bolton Hospital.
