Man dies after being 'thrown forward' in crash while he was making his way to bus seat

A karaoke-loving grandad died after being involved in a bus crash, an inquest has heard. John Nield, of Holden Lea, Westhoughton, had just boarded the 715 Wigan to Bolton service at around 9am on 2nd October 2019.

After getting on the bus in Church Street, Westhoughton, it was involved in a crash with a blue Honda CRV. According to police coroner's officer Rebecca Gardner, Mr Nield was thrown forward during the impact and suffered a head injury.

The 78-year-old was taken to Royal Bolton Hospital, where he died three days later. Mr Nield was identified at 12.15pm on 11th October 2019, by his granddaughter and a post mortem initially gave cause of death as "awaiting further investigations".
